Boy is modelled after Anna’s grandson. Although the work mirrors the grandson’s features, it is not a portrait, but an interpretation of feelings of youth and the freedom from life’s burdens. The story begins from ancient history, of the figures of children from ancient times. The spirit of youth and innocence inviting those around to imbibe and to partake, to remember a distant past but also one near as their own. Boy offers the posture of a guileless youth, his timeless expression not wondering or dreaming, but glistening in the moment. The face is alive with a spark of the living moment. An energy we instantly feel from the texture of the figure as it stands, neither posing nor waiting. Boy lives, and enters our time just by being in our space.
