A handful of Anna’s marble sculptures are polished to bring out the glassy shine in the white surface. Bird is an elegant and vibrant avian form that gently undulates in two lines. Two lines that spiral around the form like a life force, with a confluence near the apex that implies a crown, but symbolizes an opening instead: where the spirit of the bird launches forward and upward. The thrust of the bird is natural and graceful, not rocket-like and aggressive. Here, we understand how the intrinsic beauty of the form and the line must slowly conjugate to bring to life the avian spirit. |
