The two versions of Ascendi here are smaller modellos of the larger commission. Ascendi was designed to convey the skyward draw of human aspirations and ideals – capturing human endeavor: both its strength and its humility at the same time. The figure of Ascendi is not a plain and pointed abstraction, but one that has a series of lines moving from top to bottom, from the ground upward, inwards, outwards, curving and turning. The form dips and rises: in both the white and black versions, different characteristics of the form are made evident, visually and physically. Both highly polished, the gloss like surfaces provide an added mirror against the light, drawing images of the surroundings in unspoken messages of Ascendi’s symbolic energy. |
