This female torso is again, like several others, made entirely by hand without draft. By this we mean Anna’s process of feeling the form entirely by hand and building the figure without any outward reference but the internal balance of how the torso should feel and be. Small yet weighted, this torso is so named for its feeling of freedom in the thoughts toward its posture but also in the very act of its making. The beauty of the work lies in its sensuous grasp even in one’s hand: as it stands, pulled upward toward the sky like a leap into the void, free, lustrous, wondrous and without words. |
